Alright Spring, Do Your Thing.

It’s here! It happens the same day every year, and yet it’s such a day to rejoice when it actually happens! Because on March 20th, we know that even if it’s still snowing, warmth is just around the corner. I like to treat the first day of spring like a holiday. Buy some flowers for the house. Go on a walk in flip flops and no jacket. Maybe start putting sweaters away. Take a look in my bathing suit drawer. Perhaps, go on a casual run/walk to feel like I’m getting in shape for shorts season! You know you do it too!

Spring is just a feeling of rejuvenation. You feel like you’re 10 pounds lighter, even if you gained weight over the winter. You feel more motivated and ready to get your tasks checked off your list. For me, it was just vacuuming! I hadn’t done it since Hazel was born! Annndddd folding three (okay four) loads of laundry. Don’t judge! At least I got them washed.

Everything seemed to blossom in the south about a month early this time. I’m hoping that means our last freeze also took away all the pollen! Wouldn’t that be great? So, we’ve been able to enjoy the beauty of spring without the stickiness for a little while. Around us, there are some beautiful peach orchards, and peach trees have gorgeous blossoms. Because, you know…South Carolina has the best peaches. It’s not Georgia!

WhiteDress-9

They’re almost like miniature cherry blossoms, except without the crowds surrounding them at the Cherry Blossom Festival.

And what better way to invite springtime in than with an off-shoulder ivory dress from Ingrid & Isabel. I love the length of this dress. It’s perfect for any activity (except working out maybe…), and you can throw on flip flops, booties, or wedges for different looks! You can even add a little belt and a hat for a nice style.

WhiteDress-5WhiteDress-2

I love that it’s an unassuming and demure dress, but is so stylish and still shows a peak of skin. I think that some of women’s best features to highlight are their collar bones and shoulders, and this dress does just that. It’s beautiful. Perfect for pregnant and nursing mamas or for someone who’s looking for the perfect spring dress. Ingrid & Isabel also just released an off the should lace top that’s a similar style to this! That’ll be my next purchase!

Blush is the New Black

I’m seeing blush everywhere this season! It’s everyone’s favorite shoe, top, pair of pants, accessory, and bag. And I have to say…I’m in that crowd. It’s such a sweet color and it’s a great neutral. Blush is such a nice change from the winter black (not that spring is taking my black from me), and a better transition color than just tan.

BlushZipTop-9

I can’t think of one skin tone that it doesn’t compliment and look good on. And this zipper blouse from Pink Blush is a great staple piece to start with. It’s nice and relaxed, so you can pair it with any bottom…and for you nursing moms, the zipper makes nursing  your babe easy! That’s always something I’m looking for in tops now.

BlushZipTop-8BlushZipTop-11

A zipper detail is always one of my favorite things on clothing. Whether its a large zipper on the back of the dress, side zips on skinny ankle jeans, or a small zipper on my top. It just adds a little bit of chic to your outfit.

You may be seeing this top more than you want to in my spring wardrobe. It’s so soft and light weight. I just hope our spring weather comes back soon! I am glad to be in the south so that the snow we got this week melted by the afternoon. All you northerners had to deal with FEET of snow. Yikes! Maybe you just need to wear some blush to feel like it’s springtime…or drink some rosé in your rose colored glasses!

BlushZipTop-5BlushZipTop-4BlushZipTop-1BlushZipTop-7

I paired this top with some crisp white Joe’s Jeans and some wedges. The perfect spring outfit. I even stayed comfortable pushing our new Baby Jogger double stroller around without breaking a sweat (it could be because the winter winds started coming in, but I’m going to attribute it to the stretch in all the fabrics, and ease of the stroller of course)! Review of the stroller coming soon and why we chose it!

Hazel’s carseat is all snuggled in my favorite carseat cover from Trendy Treehouse. So many fabrics to choose from to customize it for you and your sweet babe.

Design History Dress & a Small Apology

So, I feel like I need to take a step back from my last post, and apologize. From comments that I received, even from friends, it felt like I made some of you need to defend yourselves with your growing families. That’s definitely NOT what I intended to do. I didn’t ever intend to make you feel bad if you had a rough transition from one to two children. I know it can be rough! A few of my friends said it correctly…we just need to be there for each other as women…empowering each other, and cheering each other on as we do life! And, although it may be hard at the time, hard is not the same as bad (thanks for that one, Lauren).

Sometimes my words come out harshly, because it’s what is on the tip of my tongue. My emotions spill out onto a screen. I didn’t mean to “mom shame” anyone or discount your experience! I want to be as uplifting as possible. If you had a rough transition from one to two or from four to five, I KNOW it’s not because you aren’t doing everything possible in your parenting capabilities for those babies. Children have different personalities and react differently to certain situations. I love mom-ing out with all my mom friends…watching them parent, and hearing their stories and insights. This was more geared towards strangers who felt like they needed to tell me how terrible my life would be…especially since we were having ANOTHER girl! The horror!

Anyways…I’m sorry. You’re doing a great job at being a mom. It’s a tough job…not for the faint of heart. And I know you’re doing the best you can. Everyone also says going from two to three is pretty easy…it probably won’t be that way for me! We’ll see in a couple years 😛

Apology at the forefront…and hopefully you know I’m sincere, I’ll share a little bit about the start of week four with our two little gal pals!

There were several days this week where we just couldn’t make it out of the house. Naps didn’t line up, and Hazel is awful at falling asleep herself, so once I get her to sleep, I definitely don’t want to move her!

BlackFloralDress-1BlackFloralDress-2PurpleFloralLeo-12

We finally got to go out as a family on Friday afternoon. Kevin came home a little early so we could spend some family time together. Didn’t venture far, but it doesn’t take much to make a toddler happy…and car rides always make a newborn fall asleep (so happy she likes the carseat)! So a little stroll was all we needed.

All the spring weather we’ve been having started turning chilly, though 😦 And the onset of snow in March is enough to make any southerner cry about now. So, we didn’t las long in our warm weather outfits! We turned around not long after we went out just to go home and turn on our fireplace!

But, I’m so excited to wear this fun dress from Design History more in the springtime! It’s a midi length, which is really in right now, and the lining only comes to my mid-thigh, so the bottom is nice and flowy , and slightly sheer. It makes it nice and light! It’s also a great dress for us nursing moms. Undo a couple of buttons, and your set!

BlackFloralDress-3PurpleFloralLeo-13PurpleFloralLeo-15

I paired the dress with a nice nude heel, a slim belt, and my favorite new leather cuff from Sweet Peas Stamping!

BlackFloralDress-10BlackFloralDress-8

I love it! You can put whatever message you want on it, and really personalize it just for you.

Hope everyone has been having a good weekend (and not getting snow)! We’re taking it pretty easy while I catch up with all of you and on the blog! I don’t want to go out much in this cold weather anyways! Hallen had a blast in her “dancing outfit.” She’s showing you her “dancing man (you know…that inflatable that’s in front of every new store opening)” moves below!

First Couple Weeks Home

Going from a family of three to four has definitely been a transition, but not the type of transition that I expected. Everyone told me that one to two kids was going to be the biggest shock. I got so many people telling me that it was going to be so hard and the “oh you just wait. You have it easy now with one!” That one always irked me just a little bit, I’m not going to lie. Why do you feel like you need to trample on my dreams of a growing family? Yes, tell me truths, but wrap them in love!

And you know what? It hasn’t been that difficult. I kind of want to stick my tongue out at all the naysayers, but that would just be immature wouldn’t it? Ha! The most difficult part for me has been transitioning Hallen. Or even transitioning myself away from having just Hallen…being able to focus solely on her, because I already know and love her so darn much! No one told me my heart was going to ache for her. As soon as I knew I was really going to have another baby (like in the hospital room, probably two hours away from pushing), I had a complete meltdown. There were so many things I wanted to tell Hallen, and for her to understand. I wanted to hold her and tell her everything was going to be okay. That I still loved her so incredibly much! That I would rather hold her and play with her sometimes over sitting on the couch holding Hazel.

That is the toughest part. Yes, my heart has grown exponentially , just like everyone said it would, but my heart didn’t know how to comprehend that new love at first…or even what it would feel like!

And now, we’ve all settled in to a new type of routine. Hallen’s jealousy is mostly gone. It’s like she already forgot what being an only child was like. She has so much love for Hazel, it’s incredible! And that just makes me love both of my girls even more. I actually have to remind Hallen not to squeeze Hazel so hard. She just wants to give her big hugs all the time! And she’s not even a hugger! But she thinks everything that little Hazel does is so adorable and so funny. It’s really sweet to see how much she cares for her already.

Yes…it’s more difficult to get out of the house. Yes. It’s more difficult to have “me time.” Yes. It’s more difficult to tend to two kids’ needs at the exact same time. Yes. It’s more difficult when twenty things are happening at once, and you happen to be peeing so it’s just one hot mess when you step out of the bathroom after literally being gone for 10 seconds! It IS more difficult. But, didn’t I know that I’d have more responsibilities going into this? I didn’t expect motherhood to be easy! I knew it would be putting a lot of my wants and needs aside while I raise these children that I so desperately prayed for…for YEARS! And I’m okay with that. There are days that are more difficult than others for me to put those wants and needs aside. Some days I do cry. But, I’d rather be crying a few tears over a hard day than not have this job at all. Motherhood is my calling. And, yes, I still want more children…even all sleep deprived and remembering what labor felt like. I wouldn’t change a thing.

One of the craziest moments we’ve had yet all happened within the span of maybe three minutes. Hazel happened to have the biggest explosive diaper that I had ever changed (thank you, Hallen, for never giving me one of these newborn diapers that went all the way to your head). I went into my bedroom to grab wipes, when I heard our dog, Zoe, rummaging through our trash can…and I DID just give birth, so all you ladies know exactly what the trash was filled with…pads (sorry if that’s TMI for anyone who doesn’t have kids). Nasty, nasty pads…all over my bathroom and remnants stuck on her mouth. It was gross! I tried to clean it up pretty quickly so I could tend to Hazel. When I got back out to the girls, Hallen had poured her Froot Loops ALL over the living room floor. They were everywhere. And this was a day where we actually had somewhere to be. Outwardly, I was kind of freaking out and flustered, but I couldn’t do anything except clean everything up and laugh. I figured it was some kind of hazing ritual into the motherhood of two. In the end, it did all get cleaned up, and we were only about 10 minutes late!

MaroonSweater-8MaroonSweater-12

And one time saver I’ve learned in case more of these disaster moments happen (which they won’t , right…?) is that I have to get up and get myself ready right as I wake up, so then I only have two people to get ready rather than three. I also need to lay my clothes out the night before, so I can just throw them on easily. One less thing to think about. I love this sweater from Design History that’s the perfect length for jeans or leggings. And these clogs are the perfect “mom shoe” that are still stylish! Super comfortable, and I can chase Hallen in them when I need to.

MaroonSweater-4MaroonSweater-5MaroonSweater-7BigRedBow-9BigRedBow-20

We’ve been having so much fun as a family. And since we’ve had both sets of parents here, we’ve also been able to squeeze in some just Hallen time so that she doesn’t feel left out. Our friends have also been amazing… we have a meal train for ONE WHOLE MONTH!!! Like…I don’t ever have to think about cooking until almost April! How cool is that?! Our friends are the best!

These two and a half weeks have gone smoother than I originally thought they would go. Thank you to EVERYONE who’s been a part of this transition. Still learning to balance family, work, and life in general, so if I don’t respond to you right away or forget to call/text you, I really do still love and appreciate you! My mind can only grow at a certain rate while also losing brain cells at the same time ha!
